OLOLCH Amazing Half Marathon :: Campaign

Art Direction, Graphic Design, Medal Design, Award Winner

For several years, Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital worked to extend its marketing reach and community engagement efforts to include more family friendly, health-focused events. After years of planning for a signature health event in the Baton Rouge community, the hospital hosted its first Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital Amazing Half Marathon in March 2016. This event—which included a half marathon, 10K, 5K, and Kids Mini Marathon—was created to offer kids and adults the chance to participate in a fun activity that promoted healthy habits.

After designing the Half Marathon’s crest to fuse overall Louisiana culture with the specific city of Baton Rouge (read the description here), I extended the Blue Gator to a series of environmental graphics that solidified the Half Marathon’s brand. The gator’s silhouette proved to be distinctive enough to instantly mark everything from signage to merchandise. Colorful athletic stripes tied the Half Marathon to the bar structure found in the Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital logo. From mile markers to the finish line graphics, from Snapchat filters to a Blue Gator costume, from medals to flags surrounding the state capitol, the first Half Marathon was extensively branded.

I knew the overall effect was successful when post-race surveys specifically requested more merchandise at next year’s event.
